I so often read items about animals on the DVN and we all know the wonderful help Annie provides when we have lost a pet, found a stray or in helping to find a new forever home for some creature in need.
I think the adopt don’t shop ethos is close to many of our hearts but, sadly, one does hear of unfortunate outcomes when dogs are rescued from local shelters.
I have such a good news story that I wanted to share it with you all in case it encourages even one person to go ahead and adopt if they were wavering.
Despite being a lot older and less energetic than we were when we last had a dog in the family, having lost our 14 year old handicapped cat earlier in the year, when we were ready to fill that gaping hole that can only be filled by a pet, we decided on a dog.
We were unsure how to proceed but with the help of Gary at GK9.CLARK@GMAIL.COM who helped and encouraged us every step of the way, Tilly came into our lives. She is 3 years old, full of energy and, of course, adorable (I say that, wouldn’t I ?). But she was a handful, and she might have been altogether too much for us if Gary hadn’t been there with solid, practical help and hands on participation. Thanks to him we are enjoying the delights of having a healthy, loving playful but biddable companion.
Gary is trainiing US as much as he trained Tilly. With his help we are learning how to be good owners, able to provide loving guidance and so the safest environment for our Tilly. We all adore our weekly training and socialisation sessions. I wish I had access to this level of expertise with my earlier pooches!
My message is, if you are thinking of taking that step, please know there is help and support available. If you are having problems with your existing companion or if you just want to enjoy meeting like minded owners and their dogs in a safe and friendly atmosphere, I cannot recommend Gary’s services highly enough. Drop him a line.
Perhaps I might see you there with my delightful Tilly one of these days.
What can I say!!
We were at our wits end with our German shepherd who barked at everything and everybody, was a nightmare in the car and basically was taking over.
Gaz gave us the confidence to take back control, he explained why she behaved the way she did and gave us the means to handle it.
She is still not 100% but as Gaz says you need to persevere and practice as much as possible, until it becomes second nature. Having said that we were able to take back to the U.K. for Xmas and stay in somebody else’s home with no incident, which before Gaz’s help we wouldn’t have contemplated doing.
Thank you so much for your help.
I have been attending Gary’s training sessions for some time and have seen a great improvement in my dog, Misha, since I have been going. Gary has a natural rapport with dogs which enables him to quickly assess their needs and build a good relationship with them. I started coming because Misha had become aggressive with other dogs but meeting other dogs under Gary’s guidance has transformed her into a well socialised and confident dog and I am more confident with her myself as a result.
Gary has also looked after Misha for me when I have been away and she loves being in his house with whatever dogs, cats, hens and other animals he is looking after at the time. And she always comes back slightly better behaved than when she went!
Luna, our cocker spaniel, is now 1 year old and we started GK9 Training socialisation classes when she was 14 weeks old. Then she was timid about meeting other dogs, especially large ones. This class and Gaz’s firm training has made her into a confident dog, happy to meet and socialise with her 4 legged friends. There have been slightly aggressive dogs at the training from time to time but Gaz soon teaches them to become socially adjusted dogs able to meet, respect and play with their canine friends.
This is My boy 7 year old rescue zero training.
I found GK9 training I can honestly say we have a most wonderful dog oppose to the no maners thug we adopted .He is now socialised good recall obeys his sit stay leave come down .He is now a delight and we love our weekly training .Highly recommend
We first met Gaz when we were having problems with our cockerpoo Sammy over aggression whilst grooming and taking objects off him which he had stolen. After a few sessions Gaz gave us the confidence to be the pack leader and be more confident when dealing with Sammy. We then took Sammy to the weekly training sessions to help with his socialisation and general training. He loves these sessions and as soon as he realises where we are going barks with excitement. They are informal and are great for all dogs. Earlier this year we also took on one of Gaz’s puppies. Luna a German Shepherd cross. We took her on at 12 weeks and she is the most loving calm puppy i have ever had. Luna now joins Sammy at the weekly training sessions and loves them as much as Sammy. We are all learning so much from these sessions and would highly recommend Gaz. We both now have the confidence to deal with Sammy and its lovely to see how he has developed with the introduction of Luna. I would highly recommend Gaz to help out with any issues your dog might have and to socialise your dog more.
In the past, in the UK, I’ve taken lessons in competitive obedience and here in France in “dressage” but Gaz’s less formal training style is more effective and suits all breeds and types of dogs – particularly good for “rescue” dogs whose past is uncertain. Mine are currently toy Spaniels and a sighthound, breeds with extremely different characters and they have both benefitted from what we have learnt at training sessions.
Thank you for taking such good care of Belle while we were away. She really had a good time with you guys and enjoyed spending time with the rest of the pack.
Dog training is the act of teaching a dog particular skills or behaviours. Dog training includes teaching a dog to react to particular commands and cues as well as to act independently by deliberately changing their natural behaviour.
Dogs have been trained to perform a large number of practical functions including search and rescue, herding livestock, guarding, explosive or drug detection, disability assistance, dogs have also been trained to perform recreational functions, including companionship, shooting assistance.
Dog training usually involves the basic obedience training to establish control over the animal and can then progress to more advanced specialist training. Basic obedience training includes teaching a dog:
Recall training – teaching the dog to come on command
Sitting training – teaching the dog to sit on command
Walking or heeling training – teaching the dog to walk on or off lead with the handler
Staying training – teaching the dog not to stray on command
Sociability training – teaching the dog not to be aggressive to humans, other dogs or other animals.
Below are the prices for all of our training and boarding packages. As you can see there are a few different options and you may need assistance when you are booking for the first time. Please Contact Gareth if you need some more information before booking a class or boarding for your dog.
Please note that we do not provide food for dogs that board with us, so please bring some with you when you come to bring your dog. It is also recommended to bring your dog’s passport or other papers in case there is an emergency.
